Admitting defeat

After just 307 days into the challenge, I’m going to have to admit defeat, and call a halt to it.

With nearly all my plans for this year now up in smoke, because of the Covid-19 outbreak, it is now impossible to even do half of the challenge. This is mainly because nearly all of my big ticket items have been cancelled.

I’m deeply disappointed that I’ve had to make this decision, but with the current situation I can’t see it is possible to achieve a lot of these goals.

I’ll still look to do some of them, but outside of the time scope of this challenge.

Thank you for following me over the last 10 months.

Effect of COVID-19 on my challenge

I’m not going to lie, the last couple of days have been a mix of disappointment and frustration, but agreement with the decisions that have been taken. The spread of the COVID-19 virus has understandably put some restrictions on the way of living. There is currently no idea how long these will last, or what else will be restricted.

This has obviously had an impact on items on my 101 list. So I’ll try and list each one individually, and some of the longer implications.

With the postponement of all football, the England game is was meant to be going to has been cancelled. I have no idea when the next England match will be that I can get tickets for, so I’ll no longer mark this as in progress until I know more.

I was doubling up with the goals of doing a marathon, and event outside of London but as the Manchester Marathon has been postponed, they are now both in limbo. There isn’t currently a date for a rearranged one, although I’m hoping it will be announced soon, and have no idea if I can event make it yet. In the meantime I have planned a marathon length run, so will complete one virtually.

As for a running event outside London, again I’ll take off the “in progress” until I know more.

Even with Parkruns in the balance, I have no idea if I will now even be able to attend 50. But once I know if they are to continue, or resume if they get stopped I’ll have more of an idea.

The trip to Paris with Claire in May is also at risk with France’s restrictions. It’s some weeks off yet, but who knows if it will happen.

As well as the running my next crossbow competitions in March & April are at risk from being cancelled. Even an international one I’ve been invited to attend in Germany, at the end of May, is also at risk of not going ahead!

Also, my next two camps with the scouts, and the trip to Kenya is at risk! It’s too early to say, but we’re watching developments closely.

As you can see there is a big impact on this challenge, and the likelihood is that a large number of goals will not be achieved because of the situation. I’ll just have to see how things develop.

Until then, make sure you follow the advice from Public Health England.

And stop panic buying as there is no ******* need!

A Drink Up In a Brewery

No. 91 Go on a Brewery Tour.

I have previously been on a brewery tour, and a distillery tour, but they were both a good few years, and I have always wanted to go and visit another. Well, shortly I after started this challenge a friend of mine bought me a voucher for a tour at their local brewery. The Westerham Brewery.

However, my diary being the way it is, it has taken my almost 9 months to actually book it up.

Anyway, the tour was really good, with a tutored tasting session as well. We heard about the history of the brewery, the brewing process, and how certain flavours are selected.

Four of their beers were selected for the tasting, all of which I haven’t had before, which was a bonus too. It was a fantastic and informative afternoon, and of course I picked up a few souvenirs at the tap room shop at the end.

But that is goal 91, complete!
